So, how many pairs of earring do you have?  10? 30? 100’s?

If you're like us you probably have a few more than can fit in any of your jewelry boxes.

You forget that you already have the perfect pair of earrings for that outfit, or that the pair of earrings you bought yesterday looks exactly like a pair you already have but keep forgetting about because you never see them.

Being aware of what you have can also be helpful if you, like us, are usually putting your earrings on when you’re running out the door.

Imagine if you had a beautiful organized way of displaying all the earrings you’ve collected over the years……..

 A big thing that’s going on right now is called shopping your own closet.

Meaning that by reviewing and organizing the things that you already have you may realize you don’t need to go shopping after all.

Now, rearranging things you already own probably won’t create that shopping high, but wouldn’t you rather buy something unlike anything you’ve ever owned than another version of the same necklace because it never sees the light of day at the bottom of your jewelry box?

So in an effort to be more aware of what we have, we created the first prototypes of our jewelry frames. That was a year ago, and let us tell you, we know where all our jewelry is. We know if someone “borrows” a pair of earrings, we know exactly what we have and what we may need to make for ourselves.

The frames are recycled and stretched with screen. The backs are decorated with handmade paper and come with hanging mechanisms for the larger ones.  The smaller ones, for about ten pairs or less, come with a stand that allows it to be placed on a dresser or counter.  We offer several different styles and sizes of frames so that no matter what your needs we have the frame for you. We also take custom orders if you need a frame in a style/size we don’t have already.

A place dedicated to all the things that inspire us to create fun and awesome jewelry. We get so many of our ideas from just running around town and checking our favorite blogs. So, we decided to create this page to share with everyone a little of our creative process and some of the things that drive us to make beautiful jewelry and accessories. Also, we wanted this space to let you know about upcoming events in your area and opportunities for you to do a little shopping with us!

Now, we know that during summer it is so hot outside that the idea of getting dressed up is almost painful, but we have some new pieces that might just make you want to put on that new outfit you’ve been dying to wear. Did you know that stores buy all their merchandise seasons ahead? Well in case you didn’t, we do! And we work ahead too. We take current and upcoming trends and sift through all the frills until we come up with pieces that are contemporary and easy to wear.

It’s getting a little ridiculous on the runway these days.  Due to the easy access there is to every designer’s latest collection, picking out the season’s real trends can be difficult because the styles go in so many directions. For example this season’s spring line (note: spring for fashion is really spring/summer) has two very different looks.

The first is the daytime look. Lots of pants and jackets all in a pale colors—mostly variations of black, charcoal, nude, and camel. Very clean lines leaves us thinking early nineties business woman without the shoulder pads. Apparently pant suits are in. Contrasting this is an explosion of colors and prints in eye-smarting combinations with make-up to match!

Now we know that you’re sick of hearing about the royal wedding but it did have a significant impact on this year’s collections, which is the reincorporation of lace into our daily attire. It has been a long time coming. Kate Middleton’s dress, designed Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen sealed the deal. It’s our prediction that in the upcoming year lace will be where it’s at.

So, how is all of this affecting jewelry? First, earrings this season are not taking focus away from the face or the clothes. They are simple even if they’re bright. Second there are a lot (we mean a lot) of dramatic necklaces. Finally, we’ve seen wide cuffs and large clusters of bangles usually worn on one arm. What does all this mean for Songbird Jewelry? Well it means that we have a lot options to choose from, and so do you. We believe in creating versatile mix-and-match jewelry. We don’t make the kind of jewelry you wear once and then give away because the piece only works for one outfit. What we are making is lots and lots of bangles; you can get them in groups or just buy them one at a time. They look great stacked or alone. Also we have textured and hammered cuffs for the people who want a more dramatic look for an evening out on the town. For earrings this summer we’re going super light-weight and very classy, the kind of earrings that transition effortlessly from day to night but don’t give you a headache by tugging on your ears all day.
